Gmail "New Messages" problems

Postby tkwill » Fri Oct 27, 2006 2:55 pm

Recently set up a new gmail account with POP access from my Mozilla thunderbird email program. I've been able to download all messages to my computer after activating POP in Gmail but only once. Any new messages that arrive after the first download don't download unless I re-set Gmail's POP services again. Its a one time deal it seems. Tried all the various options including deleting messages in Gmail after download. NO JOY!!
Any one have a work-around?

Gmail should continuously download new emails via Thunderbird. Is there another email client accessing Gmail account via POP3?

Make sure your Thunderbird and Gmail setup is correct.

Gmail nuances solved

Postby tkwill » Wed Nov 08, 2006 1:01 am

Figured out the problem.
Apparantly Gmail will not download to a POP client such as Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird when the message has been generated by the gmail account itself. That is, if you try to send for example a test email from your gmail account, to itself, it will appear in the gmail inbox, but will not download to your POP client. Strange but true.
Emails recieved to your gmail inbox from other email addresses download just fine.
Its apparently a particular nuance of gmail.

This is so too, if you send an email from the client software using the gmail SMTP outgoing mail server when you send a copy to your gmail address even if you are using a second email address as the sender.
